The Craig Bidondo Trio |
Mel Kubik belting out a winner!!!!! |
I called Tony Starlight a couple of weeks ago to let him know that JSO was going to designate Thursday, May 26th as the Jazz Society of Oregon May members night. He started to whine that Patti and I had not been to his club for several weeks and thought we would enjoy Craig Bidondo and "Special Guests".
I had never heard Craig perform but had heard good things about his music. Have to admit that Tony was right - hate when that happens. Craig plays beautifully and plays everything - ballads to straight jazz. The treat of the evening was the mini set provided by Mel Kubik, formerly of the Shanghai Woolies. Wow! This lady has got some chops. Her third song, I forget the title, was an original blues # that left me with my mouth open and nothing to say - yeah, I know.
Check out her web site for an upcoming CD release party Mel Kubik via reverbnation
And for that matter, check out the Tony Starlight web site Tony Starlights supperclub and lounge, and see why this is my favorite nightclub. Like Cheers, it is always fun to go where everyone knows your name. You know you've made it when Tony hugs your woman and pokes fun at you from the stage!
Getting ready for the Blues Cruise to the Delta; will be joining other lunatics for the 100th Birthday of Robert Johnson in Greenwood, Mississippi (if you don't know who that is; don't bother to follow the next 7 blogs from this site )
